Deep, dystopian and funny. I could not take my eyes off this film. Superb characters and acting.

A real snorer. I was bored almost from the beginning. The movie managed to be both anti-gay and anti-woman at the same time, which is pretty incredible when you think about it since it took place in Elizabethan England. The subtext appeared to be that Mary was a tragic paragon of straight, breeding femininity. The amount of money spent to make this film look gorgeous just broke my heart! Think of the good all of that money could have done? A monumental waste of time, money, and talent. Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson still own these roles.

I think the cast here is superb, all the way down the line. The writing and the plot are pretty standard fare, but the acting is compelling enough that I really cared about the characters. I hope they renew it for a second season.
