The movie is visually wonderful and picks up shortly after Dune 1. The pacing in the movie struggled to a Star Wars level. There were decisions clearly made to shrink the timeline but the result translates as the whole movie essentially being a training montage for Paul. There are several major story changes that make Dune deviate from the source material as much as Dune 1 was praised for sticking to it. By the end of the film, it’s a different story than the book. Seriously we don’t need anymore Marvel/Star Trek alternate timelines. Personally, I was super-disappointed in little things like the stoogey, crazy fool that was Rabban and the bad-influencer Gurney. I’m sure if a person had never read the book or watched any of the previous versions, it might have been an entertaining movie but it was definitely a forgettable movie.
