Robert Harris is my favourite author, but this book is certainly not one of his best works.
I had not researched this before I purchased it, and from the blurb there is no way of knowing that the book is set in the post apocalypse. It took me a few chapters, and some research, to understand the storyline, which is overly confusing and not developed in the right areas.
When you get a grasp of what is happening, the story is actually really basic. It’s not a thriller at all and I found myself skimming pages that were neither relevant to the story or interesting.
The ending is completely ridiculous and hugely underwhelming. When I read a good thriller, I think about it for days and think through different elements of the story. With this book, I have no such excitement. The story simply does not engage the reader at all.
I am disappointed that, out of all of RH’s books, this was the one that was signed by the author. I sincerely hope that the author has not lost his talent, and was merely trying to make some easy money. I await his next book before I can pass a final judgement on this.
In my opinion, not worth the read.
