Although there are some truly remarkable performances, and there is some excellence in story concept and originality here, Annette is fundamentally, a highly overrated wannabe operatic that feels extremely lazy in its musical renderings, while giving off the pretentious air of ecstatic indulgence in its own flatulence. The viewer is ultimately left wondering what could have been, had some musical talent been included in the creative process.
