Vikram vedha the movie startes with a clear distintion between good vs bad, black vs white.
The audience sees events unfolding from Saif's world view who has a clear cut definition of good guys vs bad guys; black vs white. It takes him and us into a journey where the two extremes converge towards one another and end up with a solid shade of gray where no one can be quite sure of what's what.
Saif plays an encouinter specislist, and has a binary world view with him doing away with the bad guys as needed with no remorse, as these are the baddies. Enter Hrithik as Vedha, who in a few stories across multiple encounters with Saif blures our lines of good and bad, introduces ambuguity in our minds and the big win for the movie is the story ends on that note of ambiguity.
Few actors have the charisma and swag that they go beyond the script and can uplift the audience by their sheer screen presence. Welcome to the world of Hrithik Roshan in VV. Hrithik's entry scene lights up the movie and raises the stakes and audience interest from above average to very high. Every shot of Hrx highlights his style and good looks and the movie is a treat for Hrx fans. This performance should be a sure shot candidate for the national awards.
Besides Hrithik, Saif is also very good. It feels like he has been told to tone down his swag, to make Hrithik stand out even more. We have seen Saif in a deliciously evil avatar in Tanhaji, so we know he is perfectly capable and the movie could have benifitted from equal machismo from both the leads. Here Saif is the 'actor' and Hrithik is the 'star'. Maybe that is the difference in north and south stars. In the south, Madhavan dedicated his best actor award to Vijay Sethupati. In hindi movies gone are the days when Amitabh and Vinod Khanna could both strut their star power on the screen.
The support cast is good. Radhika Apte is great in whatever screen time she gets. Sharib Hashmi, Rohit Saraf, Satyadeep Mishra are all effective in their roles. The movie could have done better with fewer bullets flying around in the end. The violence was excessive in the last 10 mins and as usual the AK47 bullets can do no harm to the leads. But the end is on a high note and makes up for the violence.
The story and screenplay are very well done. The movie moves at a frenetic pace, events unfolding in quick succession. Does not leave much time for the audience to stray into thoughts. The convergence from a black vs white binary into various shades of gray and very well done, and a great win for the movie.
The music is a bit of a drag. The two songs, one for each lead hampers the flow a bit and could have been done away with. The background score is terrific and very suitable for high testesterone style of the movie.
Apart from the few minor minusses, this one is a great watch. Watch it for the Hrithik swagger and amazing story and screenplay
