An excellent show with a gripping storyline, even for those of us who rely on the English subtitles. A majority of the characters have been so well chosen, especially the two lead Templar’s, (how creepy do they both look!) Titus and Nasr, and aziz, selcek (she is pure evil, wow) and mother hayme. The only gripe I have with the show is that the the same four or five songs play on repeat and by episode 40 I am losing my mind! I actually had a dream last night and the music was playing in it. A few other silly aspects as someone else pointed out, such as being able to fight with huge capes and one Alp versus about 15 other soldiers. Also I don’t think it’s possible to do any more slow motion running horses shots. Sometimes the show drags a bit too, but honestly I am so invested in the storyline and beautiful costumes/backdrops that I cannot stop watching.

Well I watched this on a total whim because my partner and I couldn’t find anything else on Netflix which wasn’t really dark and dystopian. WOW! What a film which takes you on a journey through every emotion. I laughed, cried a few times (which doesn’t happen often...!) marvelled at the superb acting, loved the music, admired the cinematography, questioned how a child could act so well. I think this film is outstanding, as other reviewers have said, every actor, even the minor roles played their part so well and the film carries a certain novelty feeling as you watch

I’ve watched both seasons a year apart, just finished the second season and throughout was filled with the same confusion as season one. What is going on? Why does grandma, the mum and a couple of other characters talk in riddles when they talk to Atilye? Towards the end of season 2 it felt as though the scriptwriters just gave up and brought a confusing parallel universe into it, Season 2 was very similar to season one, especially with the caves at the end and there didn’t seem to be a happy ending in either! And what was that Bill Gates bit about the population of the earth? Not to mention the lack of emotion when dubbed in English. It was nice to see parts of Turkey and could have been a great show in my opinion

Both the book and the original 1993 movie are SO much better. This version took the story of the book and first movie and stripped away everything that made the other two charming. Where to begin, well firstly the pace felt completely off, the suspense and eerie feel to the house in the first movie was missing entirely. You really felt a sense of isolation and loneliness when watching the first movie, whereas this had no suspense whatsoever. The CGI robin was pointless, as was the dog (or at least what happened to it). The house keeper wasn’t convincing enough as a mean character, she just seemed mean for the sake of being mean, whereas the first film and the book really portray an insight into the oppressiveness of that period in time which made the house keeper more believable. Generally speaking the character development was so poor all round. Not sure why the uncle was still throwing things out (opening scene with him saying “get rid of it” and tossing out furniture, when it has been years since his wife died?! That seemed very unnecessary and overdramatic. Certain bits were silly or not explained, such as the girl leaving her bag and top to swim in a lake alone(?!) and suddenly getting her items back. The CGI garden lacked the charm of the one in the original movie, which felt haunting and neglected as if time had stood still. The climax of the film, young Colin walking to his father had barely a build up, I wasn’t emotionally invested at all and felt bored by this point. The only aspect I liked were the visuals.

Where to begin! Well season one was good but season 2 is where the party is at, wow. If you want to know reliable history as well as a very good insight into the games still being played today, with secret society members being planted into government official positions, along with drs etc, then watch season 2. I learnt a LOT about current world events by watching this. The acting was superb with a really tight storyline (for the most part) that leads you on twists and turns, I could not tell what was going to happen next. Music is good, costumes beautiful and setting , it really transports you to another time and place. However! I read somewhere that the producers had planned a series 3 but scrapped the idea and if this is true then it certainly explains why the end of season 2 sort of just gave up. Really disappointing deaths, disappointing in the fact that the characters died and the way they died also. Somewhere along the way, the main villain from season 1 disappears and you never really find out what happened to him. He also made a comment about his relative who was close to Filinta but you never find out about that person either. As someone else put, Milos never seemed to make a wrong decision, knew everything and never got caught and towards the end it felt exaggerated. Also, my husband finished the show ahead of me one night as he could not wait and said one of the characters died in the most random way, he couldn’t actually work out how they died, and I know what he means. I had to rewatch and one moment they were fine then dead Still my favourite tv show, I am well and truly hooked on Turkish shows.
