These books are magnificent! The author is so proudly and subtly Black in her writing. It's warming and expertly written. Entertaining and descriptive. I love everything about her tale of strength and perseverance. The ebb and flow of emotions during a time period so tumultuous it creates an understanding of oneself through daily hardships. It is heroic, and angry and full of love and purpose. I wish there was more to read about these characters but it ended as it should, with more to be imagined and to linger. I'm impressed and look forward to more from this author. Best read I've had in a long while.
