Words cannot express how disrespectful this movie felt.
Mei lin might just be the worst character ever. She acts obnoxious, rude and selfish to her Mother for no real reason instead of actually having a productive discussion with her about what she is feeling. Twerking in front of her mother, is just the ultimate insult and antagonizing the Mother sends such a wrong message to audiences. The 'Bear' is a terrible metaphor who exists because....I do not know? Like the bear is this weird metaphor for puberty, I think? Mei lin always prioritizes herself then blames her Mother for her showing genuine care and regard for her daughter. This movie was clearly made not as a passion creative project that millions can relate to and find something meaningful from but to appeal to the rebellious teen Gen Z demographic, to show that they are "100% right" when they are probably 100% wrong. Again, this movie could have been salvaged with just one powerful conversation with Mei Lin and her Mother, and is so much less fun and relatable than Inside Out 2 which covers the EXACT same topic but relates to all audiences because it deals with the complex emotions one has during puberty. Anxiety maybe one of the best antagonists to a story. Again, this is a top 5 worst movie for me probably top 3. The message here is just so so so bad, I just cannot get over the fact that this movie was green lit and released, I am sorry.
