As a concerned parent, I was eager to find a book that could facilitate discussions about puberty and sex with my child. However, "How I Got My Belly Button" fell far short of my expectations. Despite being marketed for children aged 6-12, the book contained explicit images that were more suitable for an adult audience, leaving me shocked and dismayed. Furthermore, the content was oversimplified to the point of being inaccurate, and the tone was uncomfortably casual for such a sensitive topic. Rather than sparking meaningful conversations, it left us both feeling awkward and uninformed. I would not recommend this book to any parent looking for a thoughtful resource on navigating these important conversations with their children.
