Forget about the David Lynch Movie, Forget about the Book, can this movie stand on its own? Can it ignite imaginations? The short answer is yes.
The actor who plays Paul is photographed beautifully- which is good because we see a lot of tight close ups- he has range (for his age) which is a blessing since the story takes place through this expression. The costumes are tailored to his proportions artfully.
On the costumes, the designer had to study a lot of beading and draping, some of the muslin drape looked superfluous. But it was there to catch the desert wind for effect.
One bit on business that was silly- so the sand is whipping around in most scenes and I think If I was in that environment I would have to cover my face - but the actors are on a green screen and they are walking around like it’s a ocean breeze 😂
I saw Music Director Zimmer talking about the score on a net based show. He discussed how he reinvented music to capture the off world feel, using newly designed instruments and capturing samples from singers around the world. The score works well, but the visuals grab you attention more the first viewing. So go the the movie a second time to hear the score.
Please see this movie in the theatre. Buy the concessions because our local theaters need our support.
