Well, that one hour and 58 minutes I'll never get back! Incomprehensible nonsense.

I love Elizabeth George's novels, so I'm rather disappointed by the drama series. I think the relationships between the novel's characters (which were preserved in the pilot) are an important part of the stories. Without them, it's just another crime-solving series. Also, the difference between the upper class Lynley and rough around the edges Havers isn't clear enough either. Sharon Small is much too good looking for the part! Havers is scruffy and dumpy and wears awful clothes. She has to be pushed into improving her look, and her only good features are her eyes.Her friendship with her new neighbours is important too and only appears briefly in a couple of episodes. In my opinion, the screenwriters have pared back the stories too much and lost plenty in translation.

I'm so glad I ignored the naysayers and watched this movie! I thoroughly enjoyed watching a group of talented actors having such fun with their characters while addressing such a serious topic. It was so true in lampooning humanity's obsessions with money, technology, material objects, and the politicising and choosing of sides when we should all be pulling together together to save our home. The film was funny and entertaining, with the type of clever special effects we all take for granted. I found myself laughing out loud on a number of occasions. What a mess we humans manage to make of everything! World about to end? Let's fight and steal!! Anyway, why act when untried technology will come along and save us all!! De Caprio's character summed it up - we've got it all. Time to appreciate and save it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film from the moment of its suspenseful opening scene. The casting was interesting and worked well, and the filmmaker is an accomplished storyteller. This is not just another cop movie. It's much better that that.
