Absolute culmination of the formula of Souls Games. Every single complaint levied against Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro and even off-brand Souls like games has been addressed by FromSoft. Some of their solutions might not fully satisfy many people. However overall, Elden Ring masterfully tackles the problems of previous Souls titles and perfects the Souls formula in a way that blows away any and all expectations prior to launch. This is the only game I can think of in history that has not only met the expectations of an extremely hyped up launch, but blew those expectations out of the water with something so incredible it's hard to compare against any other video game title.
The single complaint I can fully agree with about the game is the overabundance of gank boss fights. There are too many 2v1 and even 3v1 fights, some of which that are also gimmick fights, that simply aren't designed well enough to be fun on most builds in the game. Thankfully most are optional bosses, but it is a fair complaint.
The open world of Elden Ring is without a doubt the most flushed out open world ever made. Every corner and junction is filled with unique encounters and secrets. There is so much content in the world it is almost impossible to find it all on your own.
The Souls formula combat is finally perfected here. Any build you find that is fun to play will also be fully viable in PvP and PvE. You never have to worry about getting to late game and being absolutely useless with a maxed out weapon that does 0 damage.
In short, game of the year without a doubt. Likely even game of the decade.
Behold, Elden Ring!
