My friend and I made plans to see this today and I went in completely blind. After this movie finished I was irritated and a sour taste in my mouth. This will include SPOILERS so read at your own risk. This movie stinks of lazy writing and the most egregious examples are the subplot with the eldest daughter Iris and the second son. Iris’s story of her manipulative boyfriend ended so abruptly and is never addressed again which is simply baffling. Her being able to hide what was happening from her parents didn’t make any sense and I couldn’t suspend my disbelief any longer after that point. The second son finding out about swatting and using it in the end to save his family was incredibly lazy. They showed him being lonely and just having his IPad and I think Aia getting him addicted to it and turning him into a stereotypical Gen Alpha kid would be infinitely better. I think this movie’s attempt at showing AI taking over was rushed and did not make any sense. I believe that if this movie had stuck to the family and some people around being affected it would’ve been much better. I also wish that we saw the family together in the beginning so we could see their dynamic and set up their plots there. Like the second son mentions his loneliness and having his IPad on the table with him. Maybe have this family be a dysfunctional one where who struggle to communicate, just spitballing here but ai hope you understand where I’m going. I also believe an interesting ending would be where Aia turns the whole family against the father and takes over. Very very disappointed with this movie. Had potential to be a great cautionary tale for AI and Gen Alpha but instead here we are. I feel very bad for the actors. If you read all of this thank you and please save your money or just see a different movie.
PS; it’s also ridiculous how Aia required cameras set up in the house for monitoring. That was the first red flag as no human being would ever consent to this
