What a stinker! Mr. Kovit said it all a few years ago. In my opinion Howard Hawks has always been overrated.

Really dated - stilted; depends entirely on repeat costars. No heat, no chemistry at all. Formulaic matinee stage play material. It's embarrassing to watch the Bergman character simper and grovel like a 12-year old, and Mr. Grant is, as always, a caricature.

I have a question, having watched and enjoyed this flick many times: after the tug explodes how do the "rescuers" get back on that very tall ship, hmmm?

This a real stinker of a movie. The hype is in reuniting the two leads after their long ago flick "Sabrina.' (Any fan of either of them knows about the fabled tragic romance between them.) I expected - hoped -for some of the talent and chemistry each of them had shown before. Instead, this farce. This is a cynical movie, playing down to any true movie fan, filled with cloying hackneyed dialogue and too many of Hepburn's stock reaction expressions. She has a pet bird. She wears Givenchy. This feels like one big joke - on the audience I like both of them and wanted to like the film,but they took advantage of that affection by making this crude parody of a love story. Boo.

I'd hardly call it a romance. He gets his way and he gets the girl. Eliza, who moments earlier boasted she could do without him, shows up with his slippers. If or wasn't a musical, didn't have beautiful people and costumes, what would be the message? We've come a long way since this was made and are no longer amused.

Great fun! So many familiar faces!

Muddy, shock-ridden, the plot wanders and makes little, good film should not rely on "interpretation,"
