Ever After
The film Ever After, was based on Charles Perrault’s version of Cinderella, with a father, stepmother, and two stepsisters. The title of this film is Ever After, and the genre is romantic drama. The director of this movie is Andy Tennant, with the crew, Drew Barrymore playing Danielle, and Dougray Scott playing Prince Henry. I would give this movie a 4/5-star rating as it was very much like the original tale of Cinderella, with events of the absent father, stepmother, and stepsisters. I loved how this movie showed events of women empowerment and how she actually knew how to defend herself and wasn’t just sitting there watching people die and get taken away, but instead she stood up for them. One of my favourite scenes throughout the movie, was in the end, where Danielle says, ‘all I ask from your majesties is that you show her the same courtesy she has bestowed upon me.’ I like this phrase as Danielle is not in fact letting her get executed, but instead, get treated the horrible way on which has happened to Danielle. But the phrase before is my personal favourite, when the baroness says, ‘How long might that be.’ Indicating that she still thinks she is at a higher class than her, even with her getting shipped away! I like how the whole movie is not like completely, all just such ‘magic’ but instead there was some violence and arguments. I also reflect that the best part which shows some education is when Danielle quoted Thomas More - Utopia is one of the classics, and I found it interesting how a young girl back in those days she actually could read, as usually women would only be used for slavery, marriage, and housework. Because of this I noticed that the director purposely did this slightly to relate to this modern-day world, and to make us think about the differences and similarities between the past and present. I also noticed that this movie actually has quite a few morals and lessons nearing the end, for example, at the end when the stepmother and stepsister get pushed in the pink dye, it actually satisfies us as an ending. This production of this movie is very well played out and I believe that all the characters were an equal comparison to the Charles Perrault’s Cinderella. This movie is a humorous adventure filled with love. Overall, this movie is a success, and I loved to watch every minute of it.
