For a South African, I'd believe that they authentically showed the lives of Indians and cowboys, and I emphasised my nationality because I dont know anything about these things, but from watching this series it felt like I got a crash course into what those lives are.
The story is quite good, I could follow it but the the characters and lack of development in them made me fast forward past most if not all of thwir scenes... Beth being the perfect example of that.
John Dutton once said that he regretted having Jamie, and with every fibre of me I don't understand thwir hatred of the man, yes he did Beth wrong when they were both teenagers, children basically but that man has broken his back working for his family, something he was groomed to do from the beginning.
It's clear never saw him as one of his, but saw him as a tool like one of the many he has in the ranch. Something to use when he needs things done, Jamie is a thing to his father and that is exactly how they treated him... even worse each time they speak to him they try indoctrinate him with the idea that he is evil, and yet not a single thing he's done is proof to that.
I ended up not enjoying the show by season 5 because of the plot line, it seemed pointless and just time consuming. I honestly would've wished he left the ranch went somewhere else where he could thrive and be a Randall without shame, raising his son with pride and healing.
Leave Beth to hate him and chase him, that would've been the better ending. Of course I'm on upside 5 of season 5 so it's not done but I'm tired watching the same thingnover and over again.
Casey has been struggling to choose for 5 seasons, Beth has been nothing but hateful, Rip is just their watch dog, John is the only one that seems to have dome character development. Heck Jimmy grew and became a man but everyone else? Hhhai
