Wow. Either a Five or One star. Nothing in between. Who do you think has actually read the books? The folks like me who gave them Four- Five stars, or the boneheads who gave them one star.
Let's just say, these books are the thesis of Adam Smith, Libertarian politicians, and Austrian Economics. These books are not the antithesis to Marx, because Marx cannot be an anti-thesis which leads to a new syn-thesis - Marxism has only led to destruction. As Reagan said: Communists have read Marx. Anti Communist's understand Marx.
So, if Bastiat's "Law" and Leonard Read's "I Pencil" scare you ... Then you probably haven't read Bastiat or Read, and you haven't understood Marx. Probably you talked to someone, who also hadn't read them, and made the decision to avoid true discussion, and perhaps even learning.
For me and my family, these books are quite simply the best introduction to economic sanity available in the free market today for young readers. Read them, and they will likely improve your own understanding of Bastiat, Read, and others...
p.s. Why four stars? They are a little heavy, perhaps almost Randian. Great place to start a conversation with kids - but a little to Libertarian for my personal taste. Still heads and shoulders above anything else out there for these lessons...
