If you haven’t read the book it will be impossible to follow. I credit myself on being a very keen observer in movies. I could tell it was a good movie, or at least it would be good if I could follow it (the acting is great and the storyline is intricate and subtle). But there are just too many difficulties: - characters: all are white men (which I get was appropriate for the time and place), but I am a white man myself and I couldn’t tell them all apart at times haha, plus not all characters’ names are provided straightforwardly - unexplained flashbacks - too much subtlety in the dialogue: I could tell certain things were important but wasn’t sure what so I was hanging onto every word trying memorize details that might be important but just ended up exhausted
