Very frustrating. Great footage of the music and the crowd (Mahalia and Sly just brilliant) but rarely more than 20 seconds of music before cut away to talking heads or voice overs recollecting blanded memories or stories conventionalised over 50 years. Clichés everytime - the church was very important to black culture apparently and Harlem was a melting pot. Director should have trusted the amazing music to speak for itself. Nina Simone should have been President.
