One can always expect screen adaptations to omit or adjust storylines, but the choices made in Netflix’s take on Anthony Doerrs wonderful story alter it tastelessly. This was one of the most disappointing adaptations I’ve ever watched, overdramatized for screen in a way that strips it of value. Corny, unrealistic, and bad acting. So unfortunate, I wish it had landed in the hands of a network or production house that would have kept the integrity of the original story at heart.
