I have just read it, having finally got round to reading Middlemarch last year. It is so readable; the sentences have a wonderful flow to them. You never have to re-read a sentence because its meaning is unclear. It is all very clear. Even the dialect used by some of the locals -- there is never any doubt what they mean, and you can 'hear' the speech in your head very clearly. What people are thinking and feeling is so well portrayed in the manner in which they say things. I was hooked from the first, which I didn't really expect. It was not hard going at all, and I think I expected it to be a more difficult read. It was easy, and a delight. Also very interesting that just occasionally GE herself is making a comment, at times including the reader in her observation. Her writing is simply sublime.
