Review of Indian2 by K>Shankar
Definition of tolerance from Oxford languages is "the ability or willingness to tolerate the "existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with" and this film goes by the caption"Zero Tolerance". Now what it meant? Is it Zero Tolerance to corruption or to Senapathy( the role played by Kamal Haasan in the film). For it began as if a messaiah is going to come and eradicate the social evils in various forms of corrupt practices of our society. The film could have been more pragmatic in addressing this issue but it went on roller coaster from ' Comeback Indian' to ' Goback Indian' hashtags notwithstanding the police chase for this outlawed hero against corruption but even public outburst in thorough misunderstanding of this persona. I think it showcased we have become more tolerant to corruption than dream of its zero tolerance. The film was more of a video game sort of with mechanised skating by Senapathy to evade being caught, novel idea of eradicating corrupt one who escapes to space being punished there, kangaroo jumping of the perpetrators of corruption with aid of Martial arts based on various varma kalai (art) techniques. A thorough entertainer for make believe notion of recalling this messaiah who in turn clearly advocates a unreal proposition of getting our kith and kin to be exposed of corruption first than everything else to the youth of this generation which completely boomeranged upon him. I was wondering at the first instance of a reporter asking Kamal Haasan about when would Indian3 be released? and Kamal evaded it by saying " First let's watch Indian2". I smelt something fishy. True to the reporter's question the film ended with a wider scope for Senapathy to return. I feel after 1996 release of Indian , it has taken 28 years for Indian2 to come. I request the Indian film crew to take another 23 years to release Indian3 in 2047.The reason is obvious 100 years of our national Independence and in these 23 years they could get several real life stories of corruption as has been showcased in Indian2. I wish Ulanayagan Kamal Haasan a long life to enact in this role successfully.
