A incredible, unsentimental gem of a Film that manages too quietly highlight the plight of America's "Precarious precariat", the working poor, such as the protagonist "Fern" a 62 yr old, recently widowed Woman who as a newly minted grey Nomad, hits the road to escape from her past following the loss of her Husband & to financially support herself by looking for seasonal work. Like many Americans who became casualties of the 2008 GFC, Fern & other Elderly folks are living lives of quiet desperation & deciding to downsize & free themselves from the burden of rents & mortgages by living a minimalist, cost saving lifestyle, living out of Vehicles, as modern day gypsies, Houseless but not Homeless. The Luminous, beautiful Cinematography provides a scenic backdrop to this human drama but this movie is ultimately about Human dignity & how to achieve it despite living under severe circumstances such as living out of a Van! It's also about grief, love & loss which eventually leads to hope, freedom & redemption for Fern, which she only discovers while travelling & from experiencing all the hardships & financial hassles of Vanlife? Her friendships with fellow Travelers such as Linda May & Bob Wells provide her with hope & inspiration through their mentoring assistance that help her recover from her grief & loss & teach her how to make the best Life possible, as a fellow Nomad.
