If you simply want a fantastic movie about what Naval operations were like during the Battle of the Atlantic this is it. There is not a lot of side story in this tale, in fact I never really learned character names but I still felt for the characters as real people. Case in point the steward who always trying to get the captain to eat and get some sleep was well drawn though not on screen a whole lot. The main story held me spellbound. Well written and well acted the story is brushed with light spare stokes as opposed to effusive gushing but it works really well with the framing of the tale. All in all a fantastic film evocative of the time period it was depicting.
