At first I thought Child was crafting some sort of black comedy, with the bad guys all offing each other. After the halfway point, however, the plot took an amoral direction, with Reacher acting as judge, jury, and executioner, calling on his associates to render a “sentence” before brutally carrying it out on several characters, at least one of which probably didn’t deserve it in my view.
