I can't say enough about this movie. I thought the critics and their reviews totally missed it. There are so many layers this movie covers. Great acting/actors giving outstanding performances. The story and the way it was written. The photography was unbelievable as well.
I loved how the story tells each person's journey from the person interviewing all the soldiers involved in the battle to each soldier working through their own issues over the battle and the significance the "Medal of Honor" played for them. There was so much healing in this movie and the bureaucracies that get in the way of doing the right thing are also played out. For me, this is a must-see movie if you want a heartwarming story, that shows healing is possible, and gives understanding and insight to anyone who knows someone who was involved in the Viet Nam war. My understanding is this movie was made for the military and their families. I wish the critics had been kinder and that a wider audience saw this movie. It took 20 years for the making of this movie. In the end, the movie was so important to the actors and crew members they invested financially. It was Christopher Plumber and Peter Fonda's last movie. On a more personal note, my uncle Charles F Weyant was in this battle as one of the mud soldiers. Sadly, he died before the movie came out. He talked about it often so I have been waiting and watching for its release for a very long time.
