I was afraid to watch this movie at first because it deals with Alzheimer's. My Mom and older Sister had different forms of dementia and I was afraid it would be another packaged Alzheimer's movie and bring back tearful memories. This movie is totally different than any previous ones on the subject. Nick Nolte as the Grandpa was amazing as were the rest of the cast. His real life daughter played his granddaughter. They had great chemistry and truly looked like they had a loving relationship despite the generational gap of Grandpa and Granddaughter. They "got " each other. It was so funny in parts that I laughed out loud and cried in other parts. Some of the scenes were truly what happens when your "head is full of honey." The forgetfulness. The restaurant scenes. Their train trip and unexpected adventures making their way to Venice were fun to watch. That 10 year old was old beyond her years.
The movie was a good portrayal of what to expect when a loved one suffers from dementia or Alzheimer's. Hard as it may be, humor helps as does keeping joy in their lives and a loving family around.
