The central driveline of the love of a mother for her child and the fact she will go to any lengths to keep the child to her, is still strong even though it has been used many times to power the heart of the movie. But it is not enough to sustain the momentum through 2 and a half hours of long exposition muffled by masks and loud sound effects and epic pointless battles in which the epic numbingly loud music fails to inject excitement. Cat and mouse games where the protagonists plans are foiled easily by the antagonist's inside info, became tedious. Tall willowy Elizabeth Debicki works well as a vulnerable captive with hidden reserves of strength who wears her outfits well, Robert Pattinson is great as a jittery passionate warm hearted side kick. Kenneth Brannagh does his best to play the sadistic ruthless antagonist and some the scenes of violence are convincing but he still Kevin. John David Washington is very two dimensional compared to these three.
