I enjoyed it. Reminded me of my summers in Wisconsin. Picked cherries to pay for school clothes. Also did local theater. Not of fan of how it was written it was choppy and not up to my desired reading capability.

I loved this book!! Although it is written as a novel, there is much truth in the treatment of women trying to break into jobs originally for men only. I felt the similarities of what I experienced while being the first female police officer, including the rapes which we couldn’t report because we would be blamed and fired. Unmarried pregnant women were treated as filth in that time period. The dog was a little far fetched, but it kept the humor and lightness on a dark topic. Her daughter also experienced what really happened in the school system. Smart females were considered freaks of nature. Truth also was the part where the teacher said the little girl was too tall and it intimidated the boys in her class. What a hurtful statement by a teacher. I give this book five stars.
