It overall works better as an adaptation of the stage musical than as a movie on its own. It brings its musical numbers to life with exuberant energy, colourful visuals and Jon Chu's creativity. And so it delivers feelgood entertainment even though there isn't much plot.

I think it's modestly better than the critics have said. It's spectacular, fun and an emotional treat. Kylo Ren and his link to Rey are fascinating as ever. The acting, visuals and special effects are all top-notch. But it's not as good as the last two, and actually makes you wish the trilogy as a whole had been better planned. The main drawback is the story is overstuffed and feels like it's trying to please too many people.

The sequel may not reach the heights of the original but it's big-hearted, enjoyable and visually beautiful. It should please Frozen fans and sustain the franchise. It knows what made the original great and builds on them: the relationship between the two sisters at its heart, and the ensemble of Ana's friends. I also loved the animated scenes of things like ice and water that play out almost like dreams. It doesn't have as strong a story, such as having an obvious twist, and Olaf can make things too jokey at times. But it gets the key things right, and has some pleasing music. Grade: B+

(No spoilers) Everything you could have wanted. It feels like an epic conclusion to the MCU, though of course the franchise will continue. The film is as sprawling as Infinity War which means it may not add up on first viewing (or at all) but should reward second and later viewings. It is more serious in tone, having some of the most emotional moments in the entire franchise, though it has fun ones too. A fantastic treat for fans and a celebration of the franchise so far. Grade: A

The 1988 movie Big meets superhero movies with a sprinkling of horror. The film was lighthearted and entertaining, thanks especially to Zachary Levi's comic performance. He's one hilarious man-child. But it also uses the story to explore what maturity means and what happens if we must grow up quickly. It's not perfect — the tone is a bit inconsistent, the third act is too long and the villain one-dimensional despite a good backstory. These things won't bother most viewers. Grade: B-

Jordan Peele has done it again, this time with a more straight horror. The first 45 minutes introduce a brilliantly acted family who face a mysterious threat. Then we're shunted into a still remarkable interpretation of apocalyptic zombie horror. He really knows how to make thongs tense and scary, injecting relatable characters and humour too. It's also fantastic to see how this film has got people talking anout their interpretations as to what it truly means. Grade: A-

The 1941 original is a big-hearted animated classic, though some parts of it feel dated. So at least there was a good reason to do a remake. Tim Burton is as brilliant and distinctive with visuals as ever and that alone makes it worth seeing. The movie tries hard to be heartwarming (Dumbo is certainly adorable) though the modernised, expanded story does feel overstretched. Under this weight, some performances are so-so, while others like Danny DeVito's do elevate their material. Enjoyable family entertainment. Grade: B
