3.5 to 4. First the story-line was great. Who would put this together? Definitely a bit out of the box. There were almost zero and I mean zero negative images of black men. Fatherhood, relationships (the young woman pushing him to greatness), coming of age, the balance between family expectations and blazing your own trail. A loving parental unit. The mom and dad absolutely adored one another.....no adultry (Tyler Perry) no sorry men beating on their wives, or running off with some other nationality. No shooting, no gangsters, no drug selling, no siblings not talking to one another. All of the drama was centered around a father/son relationship and following your passion to the end.
As for the music I thought it flowed nicely. I am not offended by rap songs no more than I am offended by Tom Cruise shooting a man while falling from a plane!
The acting was good, the lead was convincing, the supporting cast did great. Mr. Vance was simply superb! The young lady who played the love interest was refreshing.
Finally his peers, never ever looked at him oddly as an African American Sommelier (Somalian LOL). They accepted him, motivated him, challenged him and encouraged him.....even more his family did also with passion and rallied around him!
Love it.
