This is a very effective telling of the complicated Elvis story. Austin Butler was fantastic as Elvis, but l must admit l went because l am a great fan of Tom Hanks. It was tough watching America’s Dad play a thoroughly rotten, slimy scoundrel, but he’s a great actor and he sold it. I hope his next role is more Tomish. Great movie! I saw Elvis twice in concert in Atlanta. The first—he was in his prime and unforgettable! The second—he was nearing his sad end and unforgettable for all the heartbreaking reasons. This movie returned me to the feelings l had at both those long ago performances.
