David Ward

While in exile in the Soviet Union, Plievier had access to letters by soldiers and officers of the German 6th army detailing their experiences and emotions during the battle of Stalingrad. He was also allowed to interview survivors of the battle in Soviet POW camps. He weaves many of these first-hand narratives into a compelling account of the battle for Stalingrad (November 1942 - January 1943) from a German perspective.
