It’s really bad. Boring, nonsensical plot, laughable dialogue, mediocre cgi, lack of interesting character development, and the standard overdose of social justice messaging. One of the stand out aspects of this garbage is the current trend to portray protagonists as selfish, unlikeable, one dimensional, self centered characters. This is found in other recent shows like Rings of Power, Willow, Wheel of Time, Star Wars, Marvel (notably SheHulk and Scarlet Witch), Star Trek (Discovery in particular, honorable mention Picard)…the list is depressingly long and growing. The behaviors and decisions of these shallow protagonists make me wonder if they weren’t originally intended to be the antagonists. They are flat, boring, and motivated only by what they feel they are owed; I assume this is a reflection of the life experience of the over indulged pampered writing teams. This trend of unlikeable protagonists follows on the other trend of pillaging imaginative creations/franchises made by people with actual talent. None of the Hollywood hack writers, producers, and studios can create something new; so they take something great with a built in fan base, warp it into trash, throw away the corpse and buy up another victim. My heart truly breaks for the original creators, to see their life’s passion torn to shreds by smug, spoiled, pampered hacks is a real tragedy; it’d be illegal in most other industries. One other new trend that I hate: blaming the fans. While there are terrible people out there the fact remains there are not enough racists, misogynists, sexists, bigots, ageists, whatever’s to explain the low ratings. The reality is your shows just suck and it’s because you, the writers and producers, are either not good at what you do or you are too spineless to keep your politics out of your work (yeah I know it’s both).
Lastly, to you the fine reader of this insignificant comment: speak up and fight the good fight. We deserve quality. It’s our money, our time, our emotional investment in these products that is the real reason they exist. We would never accept this from any other industry. If we order a pizza and get a raw cabbage head, we wouldn’t accept the restaurant telling us that we’re biased against cabbage, or that we are mistaken and a cabbage is what we actually wanted, or that we are toxic and defective because we wanted pizza in the first place. Sooner or later these studios will lose enough money that they’ll have to start hiring talented creators. We all have different tastes but one thing that is universal is a good story with good characters. Cheers all,
Mac
