Star casting was a let down. Dutt looked Rusty and Arjun Kapoor sleepwalked through the film. The character artists were also not powerful enough to leave any impact whatsoever. But the direction was good. There were a lot of twisting and turning of history, half baked truth and dramatization in stead of bitter fact. Third battle of Panipat was a politically inconsequential event, as neither the winner nor the loser gain anything in the long run. From the cinematic perspective, Gowariker did a decent job to keep the audience engaged throughout in spite of lackluster performance from the lead actors. The cinematography was good, CGI was decent but not up to the mark, music was very very mediocre. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars.

The movie has definitely not aged well, too theatrical and melodramatic for today's times. Liz looked ravishing though and those ,2 stars are for her. Monty Clift looked stiff and stoned playing the second fiddle to the leading ladies.

The film was definitely made with a great intent. Chittagong Uprising is a forgotten chapter now in the history of Indian freedom struggle and hardly has any reference in the textbooks. The place where the uprising took place is now in a different country, Bangladesh, so there also not too many people are interested in this as later on they had their own language struggles which they cherish more than the struggles in the undivided British India. However, the film as such fails to make any impact. The book of Manini Chatterjee on which the film is made, is so well researched and documented that the film looks pale and filmy in front of it. The love angle of Masterda and Kalpana Dutt was highly uncalled for and untrue. It was made just to add filmy masala of Abhishek Bachcha and Deepika Padukone. Maaterda's ideology and his inspiration from the Irish revolution was ignored and the reason of uprising was not conveyed well. We still anticipate something more concrete and impactful in terms of cinematic representation of such an important event.

This is really a good adaptation and one of the rare ones which is faithful to the original novel. The actors are all great and this is a job well done by the entire BBC team. Enjoyable!

Firstly, none of the actors looked like high school students. Secondly, the series was 3 episodes too many filling redundant stuff just to elongate it unnecessarily. Thirdly, they altered the main story so much that in the end nothing looked convincing. Such a waste of time. One more lame attempt to ride on the wave called Netflix fad. Complete dud.

Spanish movies continue to amaze me with their unique story plots and suspenseful treatments. El Hoyo, or The Platform, is one such movie. The prison cell, an outstanding metaphor of our class based society, and its corresponding complications with food supply depict all the social evils which we face throughout the vertical of classes. It also handles delicately various implications of capitalism, and how socialism, although sounds like an ideological solution, ends up eventually failing to address the problems at the grass root level and also taking up innocent lives during the process of implementation. A must watch for all. A good food for brain.

This is a pleasant deviation in the patriotic genre of film making which has mostly been full with melodrama and sometimes, overacting. There were good exceptions in the past though, Legend of Bhagat Singh or Chittagong were nice, realistic attempts, but Sardar Udham will outclass all by quite a distance. The character of Udham, with its virtues and flaws, has been portrayed so realistically that you start to understand and appreciate the perspective of the freedom fighters those days. Jalinwala Bagh scene was touchy and exceptionally filmed, although a tad too long perhaps, but that's okay. With no songs and music, this might get a bit dull and serious for a few who are used to seeing patriotic films with half a dozen nationalistic songs. This is a modern day patriotic film, a breath of fresh air.
