The progression is slow in the beginning without much context. I like the small hide-out they have done but they didnt show what happened to that place when they left Transition is not smooth. I was getting impatient 1 hour in.
The depth of their purpose to follow a certain family in a foreign place and terrorize villages and civilians of that place to capture or kill Jake Sully, is utterly disgusting. Wasting vast amount of manpower, resources and such to conquer the world they would like to "claim" but they keep killing the animals and bringing harm to the ecosystem that they want to be theirs. There are too much waste and not much underlying reasons for those actions.
The world of Pandora is indeed beautiful and enticing, mesmerizing. Actors and actresses are 3.5/5. It could have been explained in detail and explored their uniqueness, personalities and abilities. I would have preferred more character development/back stories with the new characters. Furthermore, most forest or water people cant be differentiated from each other. Usually after seeing a great film, I would have a take-home vocabulary based on that new world, memorable names or scenes. I cant even memorize any of their names except for Sully.
More than halfway down the movie, I just want to stop watching. Meaningless actions by high-end machines and supposedly smart ambitious people.
The power of water people, with the support of other neighboring areas were not showcased enough, not even the creatures of the deep didnt express their power even under threat. The effort to show some power, seem pathetic except for a few characters. For me everything is not enough. Just the visuals are stunning.
I appreciated the first Avatar a lot, when I watched it, I still want more of it, Im immerses with the characters, the world they created and species they have brought to life. They even made me think of different ways everyone is interconnected. I hate that humans like to conquer, exploit and destroy using explosive firearms and resources of all sorts. They even exploit the great minds of well-meaning people because of their greed. There are a lot of scenes that I was awestruck. Jake Sully fighting back, all the creatures from that world showing their immense power, makes it all the more engrossing. I also loved the character development and the relatability even if I have not experienced what they experienced. In comparison, these two films are polar opposites.
