We need to pay attention to movies like these! I don't think it was a big blockbuster, but the acting is fierce and the meaning is far more powerful that a Marvel or Dc movie. In realty, there are no real superheros in life, there are just a bunch of people in the tiny planet that are struggling to make sense of it all. Society seems to be split right down the middle between those whom feel compassion for others, and those whom feel the need to protect their own and or to make a statement. but why?
In the aftermath of all of these horrific mass shootings, we tend to focus on gun laws, and what the police should & could have done to stop it, and where were the warning signs......we are all left empty with no real solutions. Just lost lives to not overarching purpose other than just random acts of violence motivated by hatred and disregard for human life. But why? how do people get to this point? Don't we need to understand this? Or is it impossible to understand and/or stop this?
Of course we can blame it on easy access to assault weapons (which certainly doesn't help). However, truth be told, if someone wants to destroy, they will destroy....they will find a means to and end.
But what I liked about this movie is that it took into consideration the parents of the attacker. This perhaps is something we should be focusing on. The warning signs are clearly there, but we all kind of push it off and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. We all assume people will find their way, or it will never get "that" bad. But as we can see, people all around us are struggling inside, and they seldom look the part....
The movie delves into the aftermath....how to make sense of it all...did I raise a monster? were they pure evil? is it something I did? perhaps his friends influence was the issue? was it the video games that desensitized him to violence?....maybe it can be all those factors and more?
as well, we get to see the parents struggling with "is it wrong to love them and miss them after what they did?" and "when did they change?"....certainly very thought provoking
