I only knowJennifer Lopez as someone who is stunning looking, and someone who appeared in movies I enjoyed. I know two of her songs. So I wasn’t sure I’d watch this to the end but started it with curiosity. I actually became quite engrossed in it. It followed the production of her half time appearance with Shakira at the Super Bowl while looking at her background and career. I’ve never thought of myself as a racist as I don’t judge skin colour, but a comment by J Lo to Ben Affleck during the documentary made me realise I had a limited understanding of it. He referred to her acceptance of negative criticism and she replied that it was normal for her, but not for him, and so he’s was it differently. This documentary presents J Lo in a raw way, often without glamour working hard not just for a career but also for her culture. And I was shocked to read reviews condemning her for criticising Shakira. Didn’t happen. And having a difficult relationship with her mother. Not what I saw. I think this documentary highlights the way critics forget that underneath the glamour is a person. Watch it.
