This movie isn't easy to watch by any means. It's painfully slow, its script could probably fit in a single page, and it demands an extreme amount of patience and meeting it in the middle. And yet this, in an unconventional way, is the scariest movie I've ever watched in my life. It shook me so deeply to my core that I wasn't able to sleep for several days, and even afterwards I couldn't handle horror content of any kind for several months.
It makes perfect sense why opinions on this film are so divisive and I don't fault anyone for finding the movie to be boring or pretentious, in fact I agree with most negative reviews. But there's this little niche of people who will watch this and find it to be an unforgettable experience, and I'm in that niche.
For those who want to experience Skinamarink in a much more digestible 30 minute runtime, go on youtube and find the short film "Heck" which is also directed by Kyle Edward Ball and clearly Skinamarink's primary inspiration.
