I found this book moving and thought provoking. Set in a time before the birth of the NHS, it follows the career of an idealistic young Doctor who is tempted by money for a while. Realising what he has become he has a breakdown and returns to his former moral standards and desire to help the poor in society. Also a love story. A page turner to the very end.
