It was certainly visually stunning, unfortunately that’s the very thing (for me anyways) that made it fall short. The realism was TOO real to be able to build the necessary character, real lions don’t have the emotional expressions that make these characters who they are. For example the facial and other physical mannerisms Scar has that make him....well, Scar! I’m not saying “don’t go see it”, because it’s not a BAD movie....I’d just say go in without any expectations.
