During the first two acts, the movie brilliantly prepares you for a possible horror classic, taking substantial material from It follows, The Ring and The Grudge. Creates tension with It follows-like soundtrack and does it effectively. Story appears solid and engages the viewer quickly. In the third act though, the movie separates itself from the other curse chain classics, and risks everything taking its own path, and it’s right there that it drops the scoring dramatically. Starts relying more on computarized effects (and awful demonic voice!) rather than mounting a final tension. The story becomes sloppy. Some unforgivable mistakes that dissipate the tension and risks lost of interests from more demanding horror viewers. There is notorious contrast of brilliant performances with others not so good. The overall result? a decent horror movie that could have been a masterpiece, but gets lost in the third act and fails to deliver a high standard closure.
