It is a heavy-handed drama tailored to a US audience.
A lot of things happen out of nothing just for the sake of gathering the main topics to critique. It seems like the writer started the story with the ending and then wrote the rest and so you end up with a bizarre line of events that do not feel natural at all.
This movie is nothing special.
