This is a truly amazing game. Dead Space 2 builds on the feeling of dread and horror provided by the first title in its series and builds on it perfectly by adding elements of action. The games foes are a relentless and repulsive mutant/zombie type of enemy called necromorphs. They are unforgiving and manic (even on the lowest difficulty) and if you don’t neutralise them in time you will be heavily punished for it - adding to that feeling of dread and panic. The gameplay is heavily focussed on dismemberment, you’ll have to use a wide array of plasma based energy weapons to slice and dice your foes or else find yourself being ripped limb from limb by a hideous necromorph. For a game that is nearly a decade old and published on last gen software it can still very much hold its own in the graphics department. The lighting effects are still atmospheric and amazing, the sound design is still crisp and dynamic and the gameplay itself is incredibly smooth and well engineered 8 years down the line. I’d highly recommend picking this title up if you’ve never played it, even if you’ve never played the first game. There’s plenty of gore, jumpscares and frights as well as a perfectly paced amount of action and adventure. Give it a try!
