Reading my 6 year old story and got halfway through the book and decided to watch this version. To help cement the story and what we are reading. This version is much more accurate to the originally written story line compared to the 1971 version. The boat scene in the 1971 mentioned nothing of boat being made glass looking candy, and the had tons of oompa loompas rowing. In the 1971 there was two or so of them on a spinning wheel. They did take some artistic liberties with the wonka backstory, but thats just Tim Burtons style. As a Brit I didn't like the dollars bit either, but needs to have that American mass appeal. Very well done. Not to replace the classic but a different take on it. The story is supposed to be dark, weird and disturbing. Roald Dahl was not a good man, but he wrote amazing dark children's stories. Brothers' grimm style.
