You can tell how much time and effort was put into the movie, especially the various mermaids! The variety and vibrancy of the tails is STUNNING. They could have had plain, flat colored tails like in the original animation, but instead they decided to go all out and make some of the most gorgeous mermaids possible. They also expanded the range of locations from the original, fleshed out character interactions, and retconned some old stuff that made no sense in the old version. It was a bit dark in some places and nobody can replace the singers from the OG, but the actors but their whole hearts into this movie and it shows. Honestly, the hate this gets makes no sense.
