Show was pretty meh. The only reason I'm not giving it 1 star is because the action scenes were well done, but the militaristic logic made little to no sense (why does a spartan not notice a covenant phantom until the fireteam is literally a few hundred yards away from it?), and they absolutely butchered the personality of the main character in an attempt to humanize him, when the whole mental crisis within him was questioning whether he was truly just trained to be a machine owned by ONI or if he could truly make his own way. The show would probably be a lot better received if it didn't have "Halo" as its title. People dont seem to realize that whenever someone in the film industry takes a popular franchise and create a alternate timeline or approach on its universe, it's usually so they can make as many unnecessary creative liberties as they want, which in turn ultimately ruins the narrative (The Hobbit from Middle Earth, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Mortal Engines, most videogame adaptations, etc).
Also, more than half of the 5 star reviews I've read act as if the books don't exist or aren't Canon, which are both completely false assumptions. If you get bored of the story from the games, you've only actually experienced like not even 30% of the narrative, so stop complaining as if the show is you're only other way of accessing the expanded Halo universe.
Note: Episode 8 reveals a scene that all but ruins the entire narrative of the show, and it's genuinely MIND BOGGLING that the director thought it would be a good idea.
- A person who actually read the books and played the games, unlike some of the 5 star reviewers if you scroll down.
