Very atmospheric and keeps you guessing. Ward slowly, slowly peels away the mystique surrounding the small cult waiting for a fantastic snake to arrive and re- make the world. It can be very hard to tell what's real and the shift between different narrators can also be confusing but the characters narrate their changes which is very different from having an all-seeing narrator explain it for you. Some of the abuse may be disturbing.
