Fantastic story that helped me better understand what it was like to grow up in the former beach kampongs of the east coast of Singapore - and what it was like for the people there when they were forced to burn their boats, leave their seaside homes and live in high-rise apartment blocks. I don't think there are many (or any) other authors in Singapore that have really captured this transition so beautifully
