This storyline and the show has so much potential. At first it started good, the characters, although quite shallow, is interesting. I get that we're supposed to think that most of the characters are shallow because the involved and use a lot of social media (as the character Joe often mocks them in his internal monologue), but i think the most shallow character here is Joe himself.
The thing is, he does not grow as a character. Nothing particularly change with him, and although he murdered a lot of people, he always just so happen to get away with it. It gets really boring, we start to wonder what's the point of it all?
The women that he obsessed with are mostly horrible people too, in some sense, or at least have their own "demons". We see that they do not deserved to be killed, yes, but the thing is with Joe, he has a pattern. Idealise, Devalue, Discard (kill them), and for some reason the story always gets to a point where their death is somehow seemed "justified". Joe as a character is very shallow because he somehow can be invited places although all he does is having internal monologue and judging people inside his own head. The women here just always fall in love with him even though all he does is stole their underwear and stalk their social media. He always seems to win the in end, but it feels forced. Who is Joe, and what is he all about, his mind, his personality, that is not all about being pretentious, reading books, judging people in his head, and stalking women ?
What's worse is that the season 4 showed that he has multiple personality disorders and now we start to wonder, which "Joe" has been monologuing all these time, all throughout season 1 - 3? If really there is a particular personality that murdered all those women, while the other doesn't, and he killed this personality at the end of season 4, can we truly believe that he won't kill again? All these time, he has been murdering women, not because "his other personality tell him to or make him do", but because he feels like he can no longer control these women, that they have "done him wrong", and it seems justified to him. See, it all seems very contradictory.
It's season 4 and he just again and again, get away with murders. There's nothing change. We can predict that in the next season, if the pattern of the storylines continue to repeat, either his new beau will be killed or will kill with him.
